In 2000, Japanese was chosen by the Department of Education and Science as one of the target languages to be expanded in secondary level schools. Since then, the number of schools teaching Japanese has increased remarkably. Five universities offer Japanese as a part of the degree, and there is a steady increase in the number of the people studying Japanese at language schools.

The JLTI aims at encouraging and promoting Japanese language education in Ireland through teaching and research. Our activities include holding seminars and workshops as well as an annual language contest. Members share teaching materials, and exchange information through our mailing list.

Please note that the JLTI does not hire Japanese language teachers directly.
